Today marks the first day that GaymerX has been open to the public. And I learned something important. I learned that I fail at conventions.
Seven hours and I didn't think to snap a single picture. I will have to see if I can do better tomorrow.
Thankfully, photo ops are not the only thing that take place at gaming conventions. The console and tabletop games were already in full swing by the time I arrived. There were also a number of presenters and exhibitors showing off items that could be relevant to Queered Science.
I would be more than happy to read and discuss any of these authors.
And what of our host Matt Conn? On those occasions when I did get to see him, he appeared both enthused and frazzeled - which makes complete sense when you realize that his staff had to juggle over 3000 attendees while still ironing out the kinks of a brand new convention.
And there definitely are kinks: poorly managed choke points, canceled and merged panels, long registration lines, &c. However, I am certain that these logistical concerns will be better handled at GaymerX 2014 (now that the organizers know what they have to look out for). I will be more interested to see if the con can increase it's outreach to Lesbi-Gaymers in future years (while there were several in attendance, they were clearly in the minority).

- Anna Anthropy gave a quick introduction to Twine and how it could be used as an authentic vehicle for telling queer stories.
- Joshua Meadows is selling a special print edition of his online serial Iyetra.
- Alex Wolfson has physical prints of his graphic novel Artifice which he is selling while talking up Yaoi911's new series The Young Protectors.
- And the team of Scuttlebutt Ink is trying to get enough funding through Kickstarter to make a print edition of their LGBT+ friendly "magical boy" comic Mahou Shounen FIGHT!
I would be more than happy to read and discuss any of these authors.
