Since our membership has changed over time, it seemed like a worthwhile project to compile a list of all the stories which Queered Science has read and discussed to date.
I have ordered these stories by date of publication and inserted a few other dates which I hope will help to place these stories within their historical context.
In the Beginning
2nd Century
Lucien of Samosata writes "True History," the oldest known work of science fiction. It features gay marriage.
13th Century
Le Roman de Silence by Anonymous (Read August 2013)
19th Century
Jul. 1890 - Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde (Read January 2013)
Apr. 1895 - Oscar Wilde arrested for sodomy and gross indecency. His first trial produced no verdict. One month later he was tried again for the same crime and found guilty - receiving a sentence of 2 years hard labor (the heaviest sentence allowed).
20th Century
1906 - An Anglo-American Alliance by Gregory Casparian (Read June 2013)
An Anglo-American Alliance is the oldest work of fiction known to include gender reassignment surgery.
1914 - 1918 - World War I
1920 - Der Golem: wie er in die Welt kam [Film] (Watched September 2012)
We watched The Golem because Bodies of Glass (see below) both contains and is a Golem story.
1921 - Dora R undergoes surgery for an MtF transition. It is the earliest recorded instance of gender reassignment surgery.
Feb. 1933 - Nazi Germany begins it's formal purge of "homophiles."
1939 - 1945 - World War II
1950 - 1953 - The Korean War
1955 - The Vietnam War Begins
1967 - Alice Bradley Sheldon adopts the pen name James Tiptree Jr. for the purpose of writing science fiction.
Mar. 1969 - The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula LeGuin (Read February 2012)
Jun. 1969 - The Stonewall Riots take place in Greenwich Village
1975 - The Vietnam War Ends
1976 - Trouble on Triton by Samuel Delany (Read October 2012)
Trouble on Trition was written, at least in part, as a response to Ursula LeGuin's novel The Dispossessed
Nov. 1978 - Harvy Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected to public office in the United States, is assassinated. His killer is found not-guilty after mounting a defense of diminished capacity.

1986 - Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner (Read October 2013)
Jan. 1987 - When Gravity Fails by George Effinger (Read May 2012)
1988 - The Lambda Literary Awards are founded to recognize LGBT themes in fiction.

May 1991 - Bone Dance by Emma Bull (Read November 2012)
Oct. 1991 - Body of Glass by Marge Piercy, released in the United States under the title He, She, and It (Read June 2012)
Oct. 1992 - “Murder Mysteries” by Neil Gaiman (Read February 2013)
Neil Gaiman would go on to write a graphic novel and a radio play version of this story. We discussed all three.

The title of this novel is a play on the 16th century political tract: "The first blast of the trumpet against the monstruous regiment of women."
